AQUAPONICS?

You may have heard "Aquaculture"- Growing fish in a control environment for the purpose of eating them.

You also have most probably heard of "Hydroponics"- Growing plants in a recirculating water system without soil by adding nutrients in the water.
Aquaculture + Hydroponics
=
AQUAPONICS

WHAT IS AQUAPONICS?

The symbiotic cultivation of plants and fish in a recirculating environment.

Basically the FISH waste creates AMMONIA, the ammonia now in the system attracts the beneficial bacteria called NITROSOMONAS which will colonize in the system and turn the ammonia into NITRITES, the nitrites in the system will now attract the second type of bacteria called NITROBACTER which will colonize in the system and turn the nitrites into NITRATES

The nitrates are the perfect nutrient for plants (Nitrates are basically nitrogen in a form easily absorbed by plants).

After all these conversions have taken place, the plants have basically filtered the water by absorbing most of the nitrates, the filtered water is returned to fish tank.

 > The FISH waste creates AMMONIA.  > NITROSOMONAS bacteria turn ammonia into NITRITES.
 > NITROBACTER bacteria turn nitrites into NITRATES
 > PLANTS absorb the nitrates from the water.

AQUAPONICS OVER SOIL GROWN VEGETABLES

•  Environment sustainable as well as the need for far less electrical power and fuel (Tractors/Plowing Equipment etc) and water. Natural Eco system.
•  Energy efficient.  Uses 95% less water.
•  Nutrients readily available for Vegetables.
•  Vegetables grow about 3 times faster.
•  Vegetables grow bigger.
•  More Vegetables can be grown per available grow area.
•  Easy bug control. No need for any artificial/chemical fertilizers.
•  Guaranteed 100% ORGANIC as fertilizer will harm the fish.
•  No Genetically Modified Organisms. (GMO’s).
•  Easy harvesting – No bending down/kneeling.

We have been running a small Aquaponics system for the past 3 years with very positive results.
